While I’m pinching other people’s links…

As noted by the indefatigable Graeme McMillan over at the Newsarama blog, Dave Hine has done an interview with the great Shaky Kane, another artist who impressed me with his work for 2000AD, as well as the much -missed Deadline.  I met him once, and he seemed rather surprised at my enthusiasm for his work.  It’s one of the small tragedies at 2000AD that the Soul Gun series never really came to any kind of natural conclusion…  Best of all, though, was Shaky’s work on the A-Men in Deadline.  His was a solid burst of electricity and feedback in that magazine, providing a welcome change from the pop-punk attitude that pervaded the rest of its pages.  It was always good to see something so very dark and very funny.

As usual, click on the picture to follow the link.

Not that I was speaking of great art or anything, but here’s some anyway…

This link comes via Chris Weston’s endlessly entertaining blog -
here’s a nice bit of news: Mick McMahon has gone and got himself a website.  Long considered one of the most influential artists in British comics, his run of Judge Dredd stories are rightly considered among the definitive renditions of the character.  Personally, I adore his Slaine stories, which come early in the history of that series and have yet to be topped.   If I was forced to pick a single 2000AD story as my favourite,  I think that I’d go for those.

Anyway, pictures and more when you click on that picture.

Oh, and he’s got a new Dredd story in this week’s 2000AD!

Late update, as promised

So, the update is now in place, and you can now see what’s going on with The Silent Choir this week.  Please, make Anne-Marie Cryer and Eleanor Kussan feel welcome, won’t you?

Sometimes a little is almost enough

So, anyway, I’m still missing Arrested Development, which you’ll remember that I loved with an unholy passion.  So, I was pleased to see this, featuring the talents of Michael Cera, who played George Michael Bluth on that show.  Click on the picture and go and have a look.

Still Away…

Yes, I know I’ve not updated yet.  I’m off doing the most exciting things.  Expect to see an update sometime tomorrow, when I get back.

This week, we all start over

The Rule of Death By Daniel Merlin Goodbrey & Douglas Noble

Today sees the beginning of chapter four, so it’s a good place to jump on in.
Goodbrey’s done a particuarly nice job doing the colours today, so you might want to take a look!

“If facts were the only thing that counted, the telephone directory would be the book of books.”

“I have always postulated that we have to find a new way to deal with reality. It’s not so much facts that interest me, but a deeper truth in theman ecstasy of truth, an ecstatic truth that illuminates us. That’s what I’ve been after. And in order to find it, you have to be imaginative. You have to invent. You have to stylize. There’s absolutely no danger in that. The danger is to stupidly believe that depicting facts gives us much insight. If facts were the only thing that counted, the telephone directory would be the book of books.”

New, short interview with Werner Herzog up at the AV Club.

While you’re here, why don’t you check out the updates?

Yup, it’s that time of the week again.  So, two new members of The Silent Choir for you to take a look at.  This week Kristine Reilly and Laurel Walters join the company.  Make them feel welcome, won’t you?

Let’s Lynch the Landlord

Right, so I’ve been off watching Inland Empire today, which I rather enjoyed, thank you very much. I may want to talk a little more about it soon, but I’ve still got to do the website today, so it’ll have to wait. In the meantime here’s a little more by way of David Lynch – a new short film called Absurda that just premiered at Cannes. Um, enjoy?

Greatest comics-related chat-up line of all time.

“Let’s just take off the masks and be Bruce and Selina for one night…”

How can something so innocuous seem so laden with meaning?
